Lewis set to quit Penrith
Penrith Panthers captain Luke Lewis is expected to announce he wants to leave the club at a press conference on Monday.
Lewis, who was stripped of the captaincy before the State of Origin Series, was to be offered it back this week, but with interest from the likes of Paramatta, Canterbury and Wests Tigers, that scenario looks increasingly unlikely.
Panthers general manger Phil Gould is scheduled to appear with Lewis when they hold a conference at Centrebet Stadium at 2pm.
Lewis, a Panthers junior, has two years to run on his contract and his release would provide a huge boost for a number of clubs.
The Panthers have refused to confirm or deny the rumours with the club widely regarded to be towing the youth policy line given their tight salary cap, of which Lewis is said to take a hefty $425,000 a season.
