Hodge: I belong at the MCG
The lure of playing more matches at his beloved MCG was the major reason behind Brad Hodge's defection to Melbourne Stars.
Hodge played the inaugural Big Bash season at Etihad Stadium with cross-town rivals Melbourne Renegades, but has moved across to the Stars for the next two years so he can finish his career at the MCG.
The 37-year-old, who managed 190 runs at an average of 47.50 in the Big Bash competition last season, admitted to enjoying his time at the Renegades, but knew a move to the Stars was the right move for him.
"For me it just felt right to return to the MCG and probably finish off my career here," Hodge said.
"A lot of my fans are from the MCG, I am Melbourne Cricket Club member, I am a Melbourne footy club supporter, so for me everything in my sporting life happens here.
"It is where I have played and it has been my second home for 17 years.
"There is nothing more special to me than walking out in front of a big crowd and marking centre and trying to put on a show."
Hodge said the Renegades made every attempt to re-sign him, but his decision was based purely on what was best for him.
"When I went to the Renegades I planned to stay there for the entirety and finish my career there, but things change," he said.
"You work out what is close to you and your values.
"Driving along Beach Road to go to Etihad last year didn't have the same feel as driving up Punt Road to the MCG before a match.
"So it was only fair to myself to make a return back here."
Hodge and fellow former Renegade Glenn Maxwell have been the Stars' two most recent signings, but there is still one marquee player yet to confirm his participation in the second instalment of the Big Bash.
Australian great Shane Warne was the major attraction at the Stars last season, but the 42-year-old is yet to commit to another year in the Twenty20 competition.
Rumours are circulating that Warne will be offered the captaincy at the Stars and Hodge is hopeful of playing under the leg-spinner next season.
"The last time I played with Shane I was fielding at bat-pad for Australia," Hodge said.
"I have played against him a couple of times in the IPL, so it would be nice to play again with him.
"He is probably busy over there with Liz (Hurley) doing some things in London, but we will make sure we give him a call and hopefully I can drag him back out."
