Second seed Julia Goerges has been upstaged by Slovenia's Polona Hercog in the Swedish Open second round.
Goerges - ranked 24th in the world - was bundled out of the clay-court tournament in Bastad 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 by Hercog, who has had a tough season.
Ranked 86th, the 21-year-old did not win a main-draw WTA Tour match this season until late March, and had won just six matches altogether in 2012 from 15 tournaments prior to this week.
But her fortunes could be about to change in a big way, after she served at 73 percent, and effected five breaks on the highly rated German's serve to win in one hour and 42 minutes.
In other second-round results, fifth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was a rampant 6-4 6-0 winner over Silvia Soler-Espinosa of Spain.
Seventh seed Mona Barthel of Germany got past Ukraine's Katerina Bondarenko 6-2 7-5, while Bulgarian Tsevtana Pironkova was too good for Bondarenko's compatriot Lesia Tsurenko 7-5 6-3.
In Wednesday's first-round action, Sweden's Mathilde Johansson defeated lucky loser Jill Craybas 6-4 6-1, while her countrywoman Johanna Larsson was leading her opening clash 7-6 (8-6) 4-3 when her opponent Olga Govortsova of Belraus retired injured.
