Woods closing in on top three

Woods closing in on top three

American Tiger Woods has closed the gap on the likes of Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy in the latest edition of the world golf rankings.
The 36-year-old won his third tournament in just over three months on Sunday, claiming the AT&T National title by two strokes ahead of compatriot Bo Van Pelt.
His victory took him past Jack Nicklaus and into outright second for most wins on the PGA Tour.
Woods – who was fourth in the last edition of the rankings – has not moved up a place, but he has made up considerable ground on Donald, McIlroy and Lee Westwood, who occupy positions one to three respectively.
Below Woods are four more Americans with Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and Jason Dufner fifth to eighth.
Englishman Justin Rose and Hunter Mahan, also of the United States, round out the top 10.
Welshman Jamie Donaldson was the big mover in the rankings as his Irish Open victory – a win that ended his 10-year drought on the European Tour – saw him jump from 116th to 63rd.
