Kentucky college dominates draft
The Kentucky Wildcats have become the first college team to have two players selected with the first two picks in the NBA draft on Thursday.
The New Orleans Hornets took forward Anthony Davis with the first pick, while the Charlotte Bobcats swooped on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist next.
The Wildcats had six players drafted overall - equalling the record set by the University of Nevada in 1977.
Davis, in his only college season, led Kentucky to the 2012 NCAA National Championship.
"We have added an incredibly talented, athletic big man with great length who is also a proven winner," Hornets head coach Monty Williams said.
Davis added: "Monty is a great coach who has played in the league and will tell you how it is. He has given me some great advice and I can't wait to get out on the court with him."
Kidd-Gilchrist, also in his only college campaign, averaged 11.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 40 games for the Wildcats.
"I'm just blessed to have this opportunity, it's my dream," he said.
"I'm very excited. I just want to play the game of basketball."
NBA champions Miami Heat took forward Arnett Moultrie but later traded his rights to the Philadelphia 76ers for centre Justin Hamilton and a future first-round pick.
